Durbin returns to the Phillies on a one-year deal

The Philadelphia Phillies have brought back Chad Durbin.

Durbin has signed a one-year deal with the club, with a club option for the 2014 season. He will be paid $1.1 million this season, with the possibility of making an additional $350,000 in performance-based incentives.

He is expected to be called upon in the middle relief role with the Phillies. He previously held this role with the team from 2008 through 2010.

Last season, he pitched with the Atlanta Braves. He was called upon for 76 apparances and had a 4-1 record with 1 save in 61 innings. He also had a 3.10 ERA.

Inb 2011, he pitched for the Cleveland Indians, where he pitched in 56 games. He had a 2-2 record in 68.1 innings, yet had a 5.53 ERA.

He had a career-high 71 appearances in 2008 with the Phillies. He was 5-4 with a save that season in 87.2 innings. He had a 2.87 ERA, as well.

He pitched in 59 and 64 games the next two years with the Phillies.

Prior to 2007, he was seldom used in the Majors. He had 36 appearances with the Tigers in 2007.

But in 2006, he had just 3 games at the majors. In 2004, he pitched in 24 games for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In 2003, he pitched in 3 games for the Indians. And pitched in 2 games in 2002 for the Kansas City Royals.

In 2001, he pitched in 29 games for the Royals after pitching in 16 games in 2000. He appeared in 1 game with the Royals in 1999.
