The Durango Songwriters Expo (DSE) was formed in 1996 to give both budding and experienced songwriters tips to better their craft and to provide opportunities for networking and collaboration with industry professionals and fellow songwriters.
DSE is held twice a year - once in the beautiful wine country of Santa Barbara (this year's event is February 28 through March 2, 2013) and the other in October in Boulder, Colorado. DSE brings more than 40 music industry pros and hit songwriters to the Expo and limits registration to 200 attendees, providing an unparalleled networking opportunity and one of the few songwriters' events where participants get their music heard extensively by established industry vets.
To keep DSE fresh, the folks behind the scenes have begun reaching out to other locations. DSE recently sponsored a showcase in Nashville, Tennessee in December 2012, and will be headed down to San Diego on January 14 for a Pitch and Critique session with Jim Attebery, co-sponsored by the San Diego Songwriter Guild (SDSG). The session will be held at the Country Inn and Suites, located at 5975 Lusk Boulevard in San Diego. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the session starts promptly at 7 p.m.
Jim will be joined on the dais by SDSG Vice President Diane Waters, the winner of many songwriting awards, including Country Grand Prize Winner from the 2010 Durango Songwriters Expo where they will offer critiques on submissions.
In addition to offering his insights about the submissions, Jim will be selecting two songs from the evening for free entry in DSE’s 2013 “Write With A Hit-Maker” Song Contest. Please mark your song pitches as either “Pop/Rock,” “Country” or “Film and TV” (Note: Film and TV category submissions should be broadcast quality).
DSE will be in Los Angeles on January 16 for a meet and greet session at the Cat and Fiddle, located at 6530 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
