Yesterday Duquesne University announced Alan Levin, Alcoa’s chief information security officer, will speak at Duquesne University's Beard Institute Distinguished Ethics Speaker event on January 28, 2014. Levin is expected to speak on ethics of internet use, definition of information security, electronic records ease dropping and discovery as well as additional topics. The Distinguished Ethics Speaker Series (in its 25th year) is part of the Beard Institute's agenda for ethics education. Alcoa has four business segments alumina, primary metals, flat-rolled products, and engineered products and solutions, and it operates in 10 markets across 31 countries.
Alcoa has strong roots in the Pittsburgh as it previously had its corporate headquarters located at 625 Sixth Street in Pittsburgh and built the first all-aluminum facade building. When Alcoa constructed the Alcoa building in 1953 for its corporate headquarters which is now Regional Enterprise Tower, aluminum was used to construct the façade, ceilings, wiring, and water pipes. Alcoa moved the corporate headquarters to New York in 2008 but still has its operational base on the North Shore in downtown Pittsburgh which conducts operations in approximately 31 countries and a technical facility north of the city in New Kensington, Pennsylvania.
Duquesne University Athletics has been in the news recently. Men’s basketball transfer and Pittsburgh native, T.J. McConnell plays point guard for number one ranked Arizona. He has been credited with a pass first style in his position as point guard. He transferred to Arizona after his sophomore year with the Duquesne Dukes and is currently a junior at Arizona University. T.J. McConnell’s family has a history in basketball in western Pennsylvania. His father Tim is a head coach for High School Chartiers Valley. His aunt and 1988 gold medal Olympian for the U.S. women's basketball team, Susie McConnell-Serio, is in her first year as Pitt’s head coach for the 2013-2014 season after coaching at Duquesne from 2007-2013.
The Arizona Wildcats head coach Sean Miller is a Pittsburgh native who used to play for the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) and is ’92 graduate of the University. Although Miller is best known for his years at Xavier, he has coached for North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Miami (Ohio) and Wisconsin.
