If you're looking for an excuse to crash your summer diet, then head on down to Wilshire in Santa Monica and visit the all new, one and only, Dunkin Donuts shop in Southern California. When the doors opened this morning at 5am, people had been lined up outside since as early as Sunday to be among the first to enter the foodie favorite, famous for its coffee, bagels, breakfast sandwiches, and, of course, donuts.

First in line was a man from Connecticut, who received free coffee for one year, followed by 99 patrons who walked away with a Dunkin Donuts swag bag for their efforts.

The Massachusetts based company, who previously held about a dozen storefronts in Southern California before pulling out in the late '90s, opened this new Santa Monica location ahead of schedule, with five more planned to follow in the near future including Long Beach, Whittier, Downey and Modesto, and a reported 200 additional undisclosed locations locally, and about 1k throughout the state within the next few years.

When asked about why he thinks the California expansion of Dunkin Donuts will be a hit with Angelinos, the local Santa Monica franchisee said, 'They need it, they need it bad.'

While their current slogan is 'America runs on Dunkin,' the franchise is hoping that Californians will make a run to Santa Monica their special local offering, a featured blue-frosted donut called the 'Californian.'

Dunkin Donuts is located at 1132 Wilshire Boulevard, within view of Krispy Kreme, and is now open from 5am to 11pm daily.
