Dungeons and Dragons Online at PAX East

We had a chance to sit down and check out a plethora of upcoming Dungeons and Dragons Online features at PAX East, including a run through one of the most bizarre (and possibly brilliant) MMORPG dungeons we've ever seen

This update isn't scheduled to go live until sometime in April, and we're obligated to warn you - there's lots of spoilers ahead, so if you don't want a taste of what's coming it's time to hit the back button on the browser.

For those aren't spoiler shy, we'll start with a welcome addition to Dungeons and Dragons Online - a fully-fledged crafting system, complete with the ability to strip down items and gear.

Utilizing this ability will let players take aspects and abilities off of gear they can't use and throw it on their good stuff, and let players use piles of vendor trash to create new things.

This all takes place in the brand new crafting hall, with three different trees of crafting goods to level up and explore.

And then there's the new dungeon/questline.  Fans of the twisted and the macabre will absolutely adore this mind-warping foray into mystery and madness, as players start by exploring the shady area of town "where the chil'ren gone missin".

This quickly turns into something reminiscent of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Resident Evil, as skulking and slithering creatures abound in the darkness.

Eventually as you delve deeper into the mystery you'll come across a new type of monster to Dungeons and Dragons Online, a Chaos Beholder, with some servants known as the Taken in tow - basically hacked up legs, limbs, and teeth of the victims of this shadowy plot, turned towards the master's whimsical, mad goals.

Players who continue along the trail will end up exploring a zone that can only be described as bizarre, outrageous, and definitely pushes the boundaries of the current DDO universe.

There's.. Well.  There's things.  On runways.  In top hats.  You'll have to see it for yourself, because it only gets weirder from there my friends - truly a full-on embrace of the madness theme this quest/dungeon line seeks to achieve.

The final boss of the zone we'll leave secret, but there are some cool gimmicks involved in order to beat the larger than life mastermind behind the insanity.  Update 9 is a big one, and takes Dungeons and Dragons online to some places its definitely never gone before.
