Warcraft, a major motion picture based on the popular Blizzard video game, World of Warcraft, has found a director. According to a report filed by The Hollywood Reporter, Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) has officially signed on to Legendary Pictures' upcoming adaptation of the popular MMORPG from Blizzard Entertainment.
Not much is known about the upcoming adaptation outside of the fact that Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are currently attached as producers along with Blizzard and Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner. With a script currently being written by Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond), fans should be more than happy about the news of Jones stepping in to helm the film. The director has already proven his sci-fi chops with such hit films as Moon and Source Code and already has some experience in creating cut sequences for video games in the past (ie, Republic: The Revolution). Based on his previous experience, Jones should prove to have an interesting take on the fantasy/sci-fi world(s) that are frequently explored in the online role-playing game.
Legendary Pictures currently hopes to begin shooting the adaptation later this year with the goal of releasing the film sometime in 2015.
