Dumb and Dumber 2: Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels return for 'Dumb' sequel

See also

Coming to theaters this November is a movie that's dumb. Really dumb. For those who are unfamiliar, 1994's 'Dumb and Dumber' starred Jim Carrey as Lloyd Christmas and Jeff Daniels as Harry Dunne. These two bumbling nitwits have a knack for stumbling from one ridiculous situation to another, to great comedic effect, all aided and abetted by the fact that these men are... ahem... not the sharpest bulbs on the roof... err.. or something. The original film was a comedy classic and this Fall, a full 20-years after the first film hit theaters, cinema goers will get a chance to revisit the pair in, 'Dumb and Dumber To'. And no, the title isn't a typo.

To be fair, the franchise has already seen one sequel, in the form of 2003's 'Dumb and Dumber-er', but that film was more a prequel, showing us how the two quasi-titular main characters first met. It starred neither of the original's leading men and, while funny at parts, didn't quite capture the magic of the first movie.

A lot of time has passed since we last saw Harry and Lloyd and the movie doesn't gloss over this fact. The film is set during the present day and the obvious question would be, what have these two goofballs been up to all this time. Apparently Lloyd has been playing arguably either the most brilliant, or absolute most idiotic prank of all times on his cohort, Harry. It takes either sheer idiocy, or Andy Kaufman level comedic genius, to commit to a pretend catatonic state for two decades strong. (Fitting, then, that Lloyd should be portrayed by the guy who presented such an impressive Kaufman in 1999's 'Man on the Moon'.)

After this throwaway gag to get viewers caught up the two quickly pick back up where they left off. Following up on a romantic interlude from 'Dumb and Dumber', Harry discovers that he has a kid out there somewhere, so the two set off to find her.

Check out the trailer for 'Dumb and Dumber To' in the sidereel. If this trailer is any indication, the film has serious potential for being one of the noteworthy comedies to be released this year. If it even comes close to the greatness of its predecessor it'll at least be good for a few hearty guffaws.

'Dumb and Dumber To' gets stupid in theaters on November 14.
