Psych is almost back! Are you excited? I had the pleasure of speaking to Dulé Hill and Steve Franks today about what's in store for Shawn and Gus. Don’t miss Psych’s season premiere, “Santa Barbaratown 2, Lethal Weapon 5” February 27th at 9 on USA, channel 21 for Houstonians.
The moment we never thought would happen is almost here. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, Burton Guster gets a girlfriend. I asked Hill about what Gus is like as a boyfriend:
In my mind Gus is perfect as a boyfriend. He’s had a lot of time to think about it, a lot of time to do different charts and do research what qualities women look for in a boyfriend and he’s make sure he’s made his list and he’s checked it twice. He’s ready to take the plunge. Now I’m not sure what his girlfriend may think about him, but from Gus’ side, he’s perfect.
As far as what is to come for Gus and his leading lady, Franks shares that “there’s a circus involved. [They] go miniature golfing. Gus hits all the notes.” Of course Shawn has something to say about this new lady, and without giving too much away, Hill says this about the situation: “If you can still stand firm in the midst of an accusation from Shawn… and still hold on to your man, then you might have a chance to make it. That’s one of Gus’ main criteria.” Any theories on what Shawn accuses Gus’ new love of?
In case you were unaware, there is going to be a two hour musical episode of Psych! It will most likely air after season seven airs, as its own separate special event. Franks shares lots of what it took to make the episode, and it was a challenge:
I think the ultimately the most fun and ultimately the most difficult was when we actually did it because in the end it was…it wasn’t like they shut the show down for two weeks so Dulé could rehearse, and for James and Dulé to sit there and work out the dance numbers. It was we finished one episode one day, and then the next day we were off shooting this musical.
Franks did say that he made sure to let people know exactly what he wanted: “This is the scary part of the musical, I can’t help but when I show people what I’m thinking that I actually start performing some of the dancing, which as you know, six foot eight of me, it’s not a good thing to watch.” Hill didn’t shy away from singing Frank’s praises: “He really came and knocked it out of the park. On behalf of the cast, I would to say we were all very impressed.”
Alright leave me your thoughts in a comment below. Are you excited about season seven? Make sure you hit subscribe!
