The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be spending New Year's Day with their in-laws, “The Daily Star” and others reported today, December 30. Mike and Carole Middleton will be the guests of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall; the trip to Balmoral will allow the couple to practice using their Scottish title, the Earl and Countess of Strathearn, which was conferred on Royal Wedding Day.
Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge are said to enjoy Balmoral, where they can keep far from the madding crowds. The Earl and Countess of Strathearn are set to fly north on New Year's Eve, which, courtesy of time zones, has already arrived in Scotland. Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall are there already. The family will reportedly attend a Hogmanay dinner and enjoy a wee dram or two as they ring in 2012.
New Year's Day marks the release of names for the New Year's Honours list, with this year's list said to include Helena Bonham-Carter, who placed the Queen Mother in “The King's Speech.” Other honorees include Australian-born presenter and humorist Clive James who, during the 1980s, gained fame by presenting shows about strange foreign TV shows—and hasn't looked back since.
Two people not joining in at Balmoral are Prince Harry who, according to “The Sun,” has taken a budget flight to Geneva, Switzerland, for skiing and a party with his friends. Meanwhile Pippa Middleton, who's set to start work on a party planning book next year, is hosting a New Year's Eve bash at the family home in Berkshire.
