TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced the initial details yesterday, September 28, for the christening of HRH Prince George, the future King. The official statement from Kensington Palace read in full: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to announce the christening of Prince George will take place on Wednesday, 23rd October at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace. Prince George will be christened by The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby." The choice of St. James’ Palace is a bit unique, in recent years royal heirs have been christened at Buckingham Palace with photos available after. It remains to be revealed whether the christening will be broadcast publically, however it seems unlikely with Prince William and the former Kate Middleton’s desire for privacy.
The godparents for Prince George are the source of great speculation likely to not be revealed before the event. The most to be included are HRH Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton, his uncle and aunt. Hugh van Cutsem, a great friend of Prince William’s, is also very likely to be included. Royal watchers are looking for connections to other royal families, which is typical of heirs to the throne. Currently believed to be possibilities are HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and HRH Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece. The latter is the son of Prince William’s godfather, HM King Constantine of Greece. Prince Frederik has thought to have become a good friend of William and Kate’s over the last few years, particularly since they have started a family.
