More than 1,100 drivers passed through the "Avoid the 14 – San Diego County DUI Task Force" in Lemon Grove on Sunday night.
The checkpoint, in the 7000 block of Broadway, was scheduled in the midst of the traditional start of the summer driving season -- Memorial Day weekend, sheriff's deputies said.
As a result, two suspected drunken drivers were arrested, along with another unidentified suspect taken into custody on an unspecified arrest warrant.
In addition, one was arrested for public intoxication and, significantly, the largest number of arrests (10) were for those driving on a suspended or revoked drivers license operating vehicles while their drivin
privileges were suspended or revoked
Deputies impounded 14 vehicles during the operation and were assisted by volunteers from Mothers Against Drunk Driving, or MADD, who handed out information to drivers as they passed through.
Countywide, the Highway Patrol reported 51 drunken driving arrests through 6 a.m. on Monday.
