
Two drivers were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving while San Diego County sheriff's deputies operated a sobriety checkpoint in Poway on Sunday night.
The checkpoint was set up from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at 12300 Block of Poway Road in Poway, according to deputy Mark Tally.
A total of 809 cars passed through the checkpoint and 31 of the vehicles were set to a secondary inspection area, deputies said.
Of those, 11 were administered tests to determine if in fact, they were driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Two drivers were indeed arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, deputies said, while one driver was cited under a Zero Tolerance law for being younger than 21 years of age while driving with a blood alcohol content above .01.
Another 19 drivers were cited for various traffic violations, deputies said.
A passenger was arrested for public intoxication and for possession of marijuana, according to deputies, and one vehicle was impounded as a result of a driver’s license violation.
Countywide, 567 people were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving since the winter holiday enforcement period began Dec. 18, according to a state DUI enforcement effort known as AVOID.
