Duggar family prays to soar Rick Santorum to the top

Many St. Louis homeschoolers sat on the edge of their seats watching the returns from the Iowa Caucus vote.  The well-known homeschooling family from the TLC show 19 and Counting watched from a closer seat.  They are thrilled that their prayers were answered during the recent Iowa caucus vote which sent Rick Santorum soaring to just 8 votes of being the winner (under Mitt Romney).

Read more about their prayerful choice in Santorum in this Fox News article.

With everyone filled with emotions, including views that vary from homeschooler to homeschooler, politics can be a brutal game.  Some groups push for a Constitutional Party, others support Ron Paul, still others support their candidates of choice for reasons important to them.

The truth is that lawmakers have the power to make the life of homeschoolers easier or challenging.  Homeschool-friendly representatives from the St. Louis area, like Todd Akin and Kurt Bahr, are worth the fight in keeping home education valued as a parent's choice.

Whether you know much about his history, or agree with what you do know, Rick Santorum is now considered a viable option in the race to becoming the next president of the United States.  The facts about his life include being a homeschooling father of 7 children (6 still living).  The famliy lost a son, Gabriel, just 2 hours after his birth in 1996 to which Karen Santorum wrote her book, Letters To Gabriel.  Three years ago, the family welcomed daughter Bella who was diagnosed with a rare congenital condition known as Trisomy 18 (similar to Downs Syndrome).  In his speech at the Iowa Caucus, Santorum noted that children who receive this diagnosis are not expected to live past the first year of life.  Bella is 3.  The family also holds their religion dear, values home education, and respects and honors life.

When the Missouri Primaries roll around, and then onto the Presidential elections this year, homeschoolers will be paying close attention to each candidate's views.  Of course, as with any candidate, you will want to research how they have voted on issues to truly know how you will vote.  But, for now - The Duggars are one homeschooling family who is happy their prayers were answered in Iowa.
