On the latest episode of TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting” that aired on Oct. 15, the super-sized Duggar family celebrated the engagement of Erin Bates to Chad Paine. According to TheKnot.com, Erin and Chad will get married in just 18 days at 2nd Baptist Church in Clinton, Tenn. Erin let the Duggars in on her big news on “19 Kids and Counting.” She’s the Bates’ 3rd child and their oldest daughter. Erin is studying for a degree in music and teaches piano lessons. Like Erin, who has nine brothers and nine sisters, fiancé Chad also comes from a large family. He’s the second oldest child in his super-sized family of five brothers and four sisters. Erin and 25-year-old Chad met two years ago on Valentine’s Day. Erin stated, “For me, it was like love at first sight.” Chad asked Gil Bates if he could court his daughter and was granted permission to do so. “The more I learned, the more I loved,” Erin said on “19 Kids and Counting.” During their courtship, Erin and Chad never held hands, but instead focused on getting to know each better.
Chad posted on the Paine family website, “God has brought the Girl of my Dreams into my life. I am so blessed and honored to be courting Erin Bates.” The two are now engaged and Chad’s proposal was featured on the latest episode of “19 Kids and Counting.”
Erin’s parents accompanied the couple on her engagement day. Chad took everyone to a chapel, which was located in the picturesque countryside of Tenn. Outside the chapel awaited a horse-drawn carriage. After a short, but romantic ride, Chad proposed to Erin under a beautiful gazebo. Erin stated innocently, “We never held hands before. So, he took my hand and it was so sweet because we waited for that. It made it even more special.”
Reaction from the Duggar family, especially the older girls, was very positive. “They’re like total opposites and that’s why they’re so good,” Jessa Duggar (who’s also involved in a courtship) stated on “19 Kids and Counting. “They bring balance to each others' lives.” Jana Duggar added, “They complement each other so well. It’s a great match.”
Jim Bob, the patriarch of the Duggar family stated that he thinks the Bates and Duggar families will be celebrating a lot of weddings in the near future. Concerning her own daughters, Michelle said, “I think my girls are at that place where they’re ready to be married and to be a wife and a mother. So, it will just be a matter of God’s timing for that.”
Erin Bates and Chad Paine will be married at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013.
New episodes of “19 Kids and Counting” air at 9 p.m. EST every Tuesday night on TLC. The next new episode, titled “Flea Market Finale,” is super-sized to one hour and features the Duggar’s charity event to benefit Arkansas Children's Hospital. With a long to-do list and an ambitious goal, it could be difficult to pull everything off without a hitch.
