That includes participating in the relationships of their children.
Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are very excited about the courtship of their third daughter, Jessa, 20, to Ben Seewald, 18, who attends church with the family in Arkansas.
Jim Bob told People;
"We are so excited for Ben and Jessa,.They are enjoying getting to know each other and are recommending sermons to one another."
The Duggars are not your average family when it comes to dating and relationships between their children and the opposite sex. They prefer to have their kids court instead of date and it is something that the whole family will be involved in.
Jessa is the first daughter to become involved in a courtship and the family wants to make sure that Ben is the absolute perfect match for Jessa since courting usually leads to marriage.
Jim Bob explained what the differences in courtship and dating were;
"Courting is getting to know each other in a group setting, both families spending time together and the couple setting goals together to determine if they are meant to marry. With dating, a couple will often pair off alone and that sometimes leads to a more physical relationship."
Jessa has had many young men who had tried to start a courtship with her, as have some of the other older daughters, but Ben is the first one to pass the test and be approved by the family, Jim Bob and Michelle especially.
Jim Bob said this;
"He's the first one she has shown interest in that has a spiritual focus and legitimate calling about ministry work,.When a guy is pursing your daughter, you want to check him out and see if there are any red flags and with Ben, there hasn't been. He is very sharp. It appears like a match made in heaven."
The pair met in church and started texting with each other and talking on the phone. They often talked about the church, different scriptures and their views on life and religon.
The families have both participated in the conversations as well and know everything that the young couple talk about and share with each other.
Their eldest son Josh, who married his wife Anna after a courtship that included the family as well, is the only other child of the 19 who has been in a courtship.
The family takes courting seriously and know that it could lead to a life long commitment and want it to be the right one for their child.
"Courtship is not just about having fun.You are really considering if this person could be your life partner – you pray about it and see what happens."
The pair are never allowed to be alone and they do not have any persoanl contact with each other except for a quick side hug hello or goodbye.
Jim Bob only allows the side hug when the courtship becomes serious and official, and they will not kiss each other until they are married.
Josh and his wife Anna did the same thing and kissed for the first time the day of the wedding.
If the courtship turns into an engagement they will work on their future goals and plans together then.
Michelle did say that this relationship has been distracting for her daughter and that it makes her happy to see her go through it;
"She's always been the organizer in our family unit and right now she is a little distracted. She and Ben are open to encourage others who may be considering relationships that you can stay morally pure and wait for the one God has for you and then on your wedding day, begin the physical aspects of your relationship."
Jessa recently wrote a book with her three other sisters, the oldest girls, Jinger, Jill, and Jana called; "Growing Up Duggar". It shares their thoughts and beliefs of dating, relationships and growing up in the Duggar house.
Michelle said it is a fun and exciting time in the house as the whole family, especially the girls are all excited about Jessa and Ben.
You can watch the relationship of Jessa and Ben unfold on this season of "19 Kids and Counting", which is on TLC Tuesday nights.
