Ducks beat St Louis, reach midway point of season

The Anaheim Ducks twice overcame one goal deficits to beat the St Louis Blues 4-2 on Sunday night, Mar 10 in Anaheim. This game marked the midway point of the season. The team now has a record of 18-3-3 after 24 games of this truncated 48 game season. This was their 11th straight win at home, which ties the club record was set during the 2009-10 season. The Ducks' 11-1 record at Honda Center is the team's best home record to start a season.

While trailing 1-0 in the first period, Anaheim was ignited by an electrifying shorthanded goal by Andrew Cogliano. Just 2:15 seconds after the Blues had scored, He followed a defensive zone pass from Emerson Etem, and chipped it up the boards toward the blueline. The speedy winger then kicked in the afterburners and skated right past pinching defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, went in on a clean breakaway and scored.

There was no more scoring until the third period.

In the third, Bobby Ryan went to the penalty box for tripping at 1:17. Patrik Berglund put the visiting team ahead again, with a power play goal at 1:41. Just 1:30 later, Bobby Ryan redeemed himself, when he scored to restore the tie. Just 2:09 later, with the score knotted at 2-2, Corey Perry scored the game-winner, on the power play. Perry would later add an empty net goal at 19:20 to put the game out of reach.

In this 4-2 win, the Ducks scored all their goals in different ways; even strength, power play, short-handed, and empty-net.

They also scored three unanswered goals in the third period.

Nick Bonino had been suffering from the flu. He was on the bench, dressed for the game but did not play.

Anaheim is looking fantastic so far this season:

They lead the league in Power play percentage this season (20-72, 27.8%)

Their midseason record of 18-3-3 is the second best in the NHL. They are now only six points behind Chicago for the best overall record in the league, and have played two fewer games.

Goalie Jonas Hiller has won his last five home games.

Andrew Cogliano has scored 9 goals in just 24 games this season. Last season he scored 13 goals in 82 games. His previous career high for a full 82 game season, is 18 goals (2007-08, 2008-09).

Ryan Getzlaf has nine points (3g,6a) in his current four game point scoring streak.

Bobby Ryan has now has a seven game point scoring streak (3g,5a).

Ducks have 11 players with at least 5 goals this season.

Ducks have earned at least one point in 13 of their last 14 games.

The Ducks begin a three game road trip on Tuesday night against the Minnesota Wild. They will then play the Dallas Stars on Thursday, and end with the St Louis Blues on Saturday.
