Duck Dynasty star uses Christianity to justify ‘vile’ anti-gay bigotry

Comparing homosexuality to bestiality, Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson used his Christian faith to justify the slandering of gays and lesbians everywhere.

A self described “Bible thumper,” the Roberston family patriarch has been widely condemned in the wake of inflammatory and insensitive remarks about gay people he made in an interview published in January's GQ Magazine, according to a Dec. 18 report issued by the LA Times.

After the duck call inventor and Roberston family patriarch went on record with his extreme anti-gay remarks, GLAAD (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) condemned those remarks as “vile.”

In a despicable, Biblical based rant, Robertson compares homosexuality to bestiality, saying:

Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he tells reporter Drew Magary. “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.

The Robertson clan, which includes Phil's brother, Si, and sons, Willie, Jase and Jep, has been enjoying the spotlight since the unlikely success of the A&E reality series about their duck call business.

Exploiting their fame to promote their Christian faith, which is apparently motivated in part by homophobia and bigotry, the family hit the Christian speaking circuit over the summer. Evangelist Rick Warren's church even hosted a "Ducky Dynasty" day in July. Willie Robertson also revealed on Fox News a month later that GOP leaders had been courting him for a political run, based on the clan's emphasis on family values.

"We're Bible-thumpers who just happened to end up on television," Phil Robertson told GQ, apparently proud of his ignorance, his bigotry, and his Christian hate masquerading as “family values."

Equating homosexuality to bestiality, and comparing all gays and lesbians to “adulterers” and “the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers” is hate speech, plain and simple. Robertson, and his brand of Christian hate and bigotry, should be condemned in the strongest terms by all reasonable and decent people.
