Duck Dynasty star anti-gay rants and what about gays in ovens?

See also

If you aren't aware, Phil Robertson, of Duck Dynasty fame, has gone off and compared homosexuality to such things as beastility. Yes, because if anything is similar to two men who love each other and have sex, is someone molesting an animal.

Seriously, what is it with Christian right-wingers and comparing gay male homosexuality with sex with animals, or marriage equality with marrying animals? Do they fantasize about sex/marriage with animals and it is forbidden fruit to them?

Anyway, I bring up male homosexuality and not female homosexuality because I have never heard arguments directed specifically against two women having sex; it seems for some reason that it is male homosexuality that brings out the disgust and hatred of people like Phil Robertson. That is not to say that the Robertsons of the world don't oppose lesbian rights, they are just duly focused on gay males and not females.

Now, Robertson has nothing on Ivan Oklobystin, a Russian Orthodox priest and movie star over there who stated that gays should be stuffed into ovens. Those who disagree with him, he said, are "fascists". Yes, because if there was anything fascists had opposed 80 years ago it was murdering people and putting them in ovens.

Now, Russia is a hotbed of anti-gay bigotry. The amazing thing is that while Oklobystin is free to spew his venom (which he probably should be unless he incites violence) gay rights activists can't even demonstrate or speak him against him because this would be so called pro-gay propaganda.

Now there is one connection both these men possess. In fact, there is one connection that almost every anti-gay zealot in the U.S. (or throughout the world) posses. That connection, if you haven't guessed by now, is religion. Specifically but not limited to, fundamentalist type religion.

While there is a lie stated there are no atheists in foxholes (actually there are in fact many) there are very few atheists who oppose gay rights, let alone are bigots about it. Those that exist are dwarfed by atheists who strongly support gay rights.

Religion allows people to easily express hatred, because it rationalizes it. The supposed creator/ruler of the universe agrees with the bigot, so how can the bigot be wrong? It is time to move away from religion and think for ourselves.

Organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign exist to campaign for gay rights and equality. I am a member, what about you?
