"Duck Dynasty" is stirring up problems at a small town school in Virginia. On Sept. 27, Web Pro News reported that a student at the high school got in trouble for wearing a shirt with Si Robertson on the front. However, it wasn't Si's photo that got the kid in trouble... it's what Si said that had the school up in arms. The school found the T-shirt offensive and said it was "threatening to other students."
The novelty shirt read "I will hurt you physically and meta-physically," which was a quirky phrase that came out of Si's mouth on the show (he's known for saying ridiculous and funny things like this). The school gave student Hunter Spain two options. He could either turn his shirt in or go home and change.
"Duck Dynasty" is so incredibly popular but the school still felt that the words on the shirt (likely the "I will hurt you") were provoking. Hunter said that he chose to go home and change because he didn't want to "look stupid" in front of the girls at school. Even still, Hunter doesn't really understand why his shirt was that big of a deal... but he complied with the rules any way -- and he seemed really cool about it. His mom wasn't angry with him at all... in fact, she really couldn't understand why the school was so serious about the T-shirt.
"For this to be considered as a threat to the school... I couldn’t understand it. Anybody that ever watches 'Duck Dynasty' knows that Si Robertson is famous for his little funny slogans," said Hunter's mom, Edna-Jo.
"Duck Dynasty" is causing all kinds of problems... but for A&E? Ratings aren't one. The show is doing extremely well in its fourth season. Do you think the school was right or wrong for making Hunter change his shirt?
