According to Yahoo TV, the controversy surrounding Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has taken its toll on the season 5 debut. The popular A&E show got hit by a dose of reality on Wednesday night. The numbers were reported to be at 8.5 million viewers on Thursday, and according to Yahoo, it snapped a streak of ratings record. This was Duck Dynasty’s first season to season drop since the shows inception.
While the numbers are still very good, it’s impossible to ignore the decrease in viewership. Here’s an excerpt via Yahoo TV, “Among adults 18-49, the premiere averaged 4.2 million viewers, down 33%.”
This could be a blip on the radar or something more significant in the making. Many viewers could simply be tired of the show and all of their antics. However, the 28% drop in total views may help bring out supporters of Phill Robertson and the show.
Maybe fans are boycotting A&E for wavering on their decision to suspend the Duck Dynasty star. It’s clear that money was talking, and they decided to listen. If the numbers continue to drop, we could be looking at the demise of the famous duck callers. After all, it’s really only about the money.
It's likely they will all survive with or without a show.
