“Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson broke his silence over the weekend while attending a Bible study group. The main message Phil passed on to the folks in the group was that he wasn’t backing down and that nothing can make him stray from his path, according to “Fox and Friends” live Monday morning, Dec. 23.
A&E suspended Phil Robertson last week from the “Duck Dynasty” show after he answered questions about sin during an interview with GQ Magazine. He only answered the questions that the interviewer asked him. Phil reiterated this to the Bible group, saying that he didn’t offer up this information on his own, he was asked, according to Us Magazine on Dec. 22.
Another reveal over the weekend was that Phil had an A&E publicist with him at the interview. “Fox and Friends First” on Monday reports that the family feels as if they were “hung out to dry.” Apparently Phil answered these questions without the publicist intervening.
A&E came off as appalled and surprised how Phil answered the questions concerning sin and the gay lifestyle the way he did. If it is true that the publicist was there, they knew long before this was made public. Why would this question be allowed in the interview when most folks know Phil's religious views that work with him on the show?
One thing that Phil said to the Bible study group that needed to be said is that his redneck status doesn’t mean he is dull witted. He tells the group he’s been called an “ignoramous” this week over the comments he made. Phil said to the group:
“We are a bunch of rednecks from Louisiana, but I am not uneducated, I have a degree from Louisiana Tech. But this week I have been called an ignoramus.”
While the “Duck Dynasty” men are the first ones to call themselves “rednecks,” they are all brilliant men. Just look at what Phil created, an empire around an object that calls ducks to hunters. Their redneck status does not include lack of intellect.
Phil also said to the group:
“This week I have been asked, 'is this the first time you have brought up sin? I said, 'Are you kidding? I have been traveling to and fro spreading this message.' Phil continued with, 'Well do you invite yourself to go and get your Bible and tell people what you are now sharing with us?' I said, 'No they are inviting me.”
This is why the Robertson family feels like they’ve been hung out to dry. Phil was asked a question, which he answered truthfully while a rep from the network was allegedly there with him. Then the “Duck Dynasty” world comes crashing down around him as A&E suspends him.
