‘Duck Dynasty’ family rallying behind Phil Robertson as show may be in jeopardy

Phil Robertson has the full support of his family as they just issued a statement that has many wondering if “Duck Dynasty” will stay on the air. According to E News on Dec. 19, the whole Robertson clan stands behind the patriarch and is willing to let their hit reality show go, if necessary.

After the elder Robertson made his comments to GQ magazine about homosexuality being a sin because it says so in the Bible, he was suspended from his own show indefinitely. The A&E network chose to issue a statement saying that they do not support his views and made the decision to have him dropped from the show for now. Supporters of the Robertson family have been outraged over this and have formed petitions and even a Facebook page to get Robertson back on the show.

It sounds like the family has regrouped and chose to stand behind the 67-year-old duck hunter. They issued their own statement that has left fans wondering if this is the end of the “Duck Dynasty” fame.

”We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E's decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible,” they posted on “Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Phil would never incite or encourage hate.”

“We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right,” they continued. “We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family.”

This statement suggests that unless something changes and A&E chooses to let the reality star back on the show, this will most likely be the end of it. Surprisingly, there have been many that have supported his right to free speech, even though they do not support his way of thinking about homosexuality and what the Bible has to say about it. In fact, it seems that they may have more supporters than haters. Having the right to free speech is important to any American and that is what this issue is all about.

This should not come as a big surprise as their motto is, 'faith, family, ducks.' In fact, they stand behind all three, so people really shouldn't be too shocked by any of this in the first place. Their faith is a huge part of their life as seen in the show. As they should also realize by watching is that Phil Robertson doesn't mince his words at all.

Will A&E reverse their decision to keep Robertson from his show? That remains to be seen but they do stand to lose a huge money-maker and also a viewing audience that have said that they will boycott the network completely if they stand by their decision.

One thing is for sure, “Duck Dynasty” just wouldn't be the same without the Duck Commander’s quirky comments throughout the show and his feisty relationship with Miss Kay for us to enjoy.

What are your thoughts on this issue? Do you stand behind Phil Robertson’s right to free speech?
