Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson details 42-pound weight loss: Her diet and workout secrets

The Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson feels amazing after a stunning 42-pound weight loss during the past five months.

Ferguson, 54, decided to overhaul her diet and start working out daily after getting frustrated with her dowdy appearance and poor health. She said being overweight made her feel helpless.

“I was just drowning in eating, drowning in food," Sarah told Hello! “I used to be so angry; I believed that I had lost control. I couldn’t fit into any of my clothes."

Ferguson, who has battled weight issues all her life, was hurt by the cruel media fat-shaming she endured every time she was photographed at a public event.

“It took courage to go out in public in all the years I have been overweight," said Sarah. "Every time there was a 'Duchess of Pork’ or 'Fat, Frumpy Fergie’ headline, they didn’t have any idea they were reaching to the depths of my soul.”

The mom of two said the turning point came when she realized she weighed as much as she did while pregnant. “That really frightened me,” said the Duchess. “Beatrice was an 8-lb 8-oz baby and I was only six pounds off my full-blown pregnancy weight. I decided to make a change.”

Ferguson embarked on a diet and exercise regimen in October 2013. The 5-foot-8 Sarah, who once tipped the scales at over 220 pounds, cut sugar out of her diet and ran every day. “I went up to the mountains, and I ran every day," she said. "That’s how I got fit."

Ferguson discussed her weight-loss, emotional overeating and personal struggles in her memoir, Finding Sarah: A Duchess's Journey to Find Herself.
