Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge, and husband Prince William are expecting a baby in July, and the mum-to-be has been out shopping for baby clothes, Us Weekly reported on Friday, March 15. Kate, 31, was shopping at London’s TopShop store and was spotted carrying several items around the store, including a pair of jeans.
Eyewitnesses say the Duchess of Cambridge and the royal baby bump were accompanied by her plain clothes security detail. Kate, who bought a $55 Deirdre dress at TopShop in March, has a more relaxed, easygoing style, and the Duchess seems to enjoy shopping for her own maternity wardrobe and has a keen eye for dressing the royal baby bump in style.
Unlike other royal mums, the Kate enjoys more freedom to make maternity fashion choices. Other royal mums, including Queen Elizabeth, her daughter Anne, the Princess Royal and even her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales did not shop for their own maternity wear while pregnant. Diana, when pregnant with Prince William, was the first royal mum to appear in public in a bikini while on vacation during her pregnancy.
While pregnant in the 1980s with Princes William and Harry, designers brought their fashions to the Princess of Wales at Buckingham or Kensington Palace in order for Diana to choose her maternity wear. Many of the dresses worn by Princess Diana during her pregnancies were designed specifically for her.
