HRH The Duchess of Cambridge took her first step in getting back to work on Friday, when she joined HRH Prince William at an official event in Wales. The couple was on hand to start the Ring O’Fire Ultra Marathon, a demanding three day coastal race. The Duchess was not originally slated to attend, but she reportedly wanted to show her gratitude to the Welsh public for all of their well-wishes. As the couple walked around meeting the public there were lots of laughs, as is typical. She collected many cards and gifts for their baby son, HRH Prince George. When asked how her son was doing the Duchess replied, “He’s very well. He’s sleeping at the moment.” She also commented to a group of children that the Prince “loves bright colors.” One of the gifts the Duchess was given at the event was a small package of diapers, she joked, “We’ve got a lot of these. We can always do with some more.” The Cambridges’ son is 5 weeks old and was only seen in public leaving the hospital after his birth. There is talk that he could join the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on a tour in Australia next year.
Friday’s event is one of the final the couple will attend before moving to London’s Kensington Palace in a few weeks. A few weeks ago the Prince delivered a speech at the Anglesey Show effectively saying goodbye to the island they have called “home” since their marriage. He called it a “special place” that the couple would miss very much.
