I bit my tongue long enough on this subject. Discovery Channel began with science-oriented programming and now they are into all kinds of stuff. I like Dual Survival. It isn't the notion of pairing a hippie outdoorsman with a military-trained survivalist as much as a couple of guys cooperating to survive in the natural elements. Since I spend some time in the woods, I learn things that improve my situational awareness. Preppers do that instinctively.
The show used to be with Dave and Cody. Dave had military training. As it turns out, I have as much or more military survival training as Dave did. He came from Southeast Ohio and I came from North Central Ohio.
Anyway, Dave turned out to be fraudulent as he exaggerated his credentials. That made fans very angry and Cody most angry because he was depending upon his partner’s knowledge and skill.
If I had a choice of picking Dave or Cody, I would still take the guy with boots over bare feet, wouldn’t you?
Hippie Cody makes fires, builds fine shelters, and fashionable leaf wear. Dave demonstrated climbing skills.
Now, there is a new guy, Joe Teti. Joe’s resume was apparently better vetted than Dave. They selected Dave for his fine YouTube videos and not necessarily his credentials.
My buddy, Jim Rodger is a scholar farmer from Western Pennsylvania. He and I both like the wilderness and woods. I live in urban Arlington Virginia. We are both preppers of different types and our common pursuit is sustainable economics.
Preppers understand the concept as self-reliance begins with personal sustainability. Two preppers sharing knowledge is better than one.

FoxNews.comThe popular Discovery series “Dual Survival” has revealed to FOX411 exclusively its new military survival star: Joseph Teti.
Teti is a former Force Recon Marine, Army Special Forces “Green Beret” and a former operative in one of the most top-secret government counter- terrorist units in the world.
He joins professional survival instructor Cody Lundin – who hasn’t worn shoes for over 20 years – who returns to the Discovery show for his third season.“There is no question, Cody Lundin is one of the world’s foremost experts in self-reliance and living off the land. And Joe Teti’s ability to survive a decade of combat in some of the most dangerous situations and harshest terrain on the planet makes him the perfect addition to ‘Dual Survival,’” executive producer French Horwitz told FOX411. “The differences between these two men couldn’t be more drastic, but each is formidable in his own way. This will unquestionably be the best season yet.”
In each episode of “Dual Survival,” the duo, equipped with minimal gear, is dropped into a stressful, death-inducing conundrum. The season opener, a one-hour special entitled “Unbraided” airing Jan. 1, 2013, features never-before season footage of Lundin, who introduces audiences to his new cohort, and gives fans a glimpse into what to expect from the pair.
The premiere is followed by “Mars on Earth,” which takes the two to the driest place on earth. Chile’s Atacama desert, which NASA uses as a testing ground for its Martian rovers.”
