A woman from Granbury, Texas thought it might be funny to call 911 and order cigarettes delivered to her home, US News reported on Feb. 19. She did not get her cigarettes; instead, she got a visit from the Hood County Sheriff’s department.
Hood County Lt. Kathy Jividen reported that the 48-year-old woman was “very intoxicated” when she requested the “special delivery.” Jividen said the woman thought it would be “amusing” to call 911 to place an order for the cigarettes.
Police say that after dispatch answered the 911 call on Feb. 11 at 1:18 a.m., they could hear a man and woman talking in the background. The woman said, “I need some cigarettes,” then provided 911 dispatch with her name and address.
Two deputies from the Hood County Sheriff’s office were sent to the woman’s home in Granbury, about 65 miles southwest of Dallas. The unidentified woman was taken into custody and charged with a misdemeanor count of abuse of 911. The woman later posted $1,000 bond and was released from the Hood County jail.
