A 36-year-old man from Independence Township in Michigan was attempting to show his concerned girlfriend that his three firearms in the house are of no harm to anyone, except evidently himself. The man, whose name was not released, was idiotically putting the pistols to his head and pulling the triggers, when one of the weapons discharged, killing him.

According to the Huffington Post on Tuesday, Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies arrived Sunday night at the man’s home in the 4400 block of Pinedale. His girlfriend was performing CPR on him when the paramedics arrived.

According to the girlfriend, the man has been “drinking all day,” which likely contributed to his foolish behavior. He was evidently explaining to her that his three handguns are safe when they aren’t loaded, according to Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe.

When he pulled the trigger on the third handgun however, which was loaded, it discharged. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman’s three children were in the home at the time of the shooting – ages 7, 10 and 12 – but did not witness the shooting, confirmed authorities.

According to the Huffington Post report, there have been many such "accidental suicides."

This isn't the first time a gun safety demonstration has gone wrong. In January 2013, 18-year-old Florida resident Alexander Xavier Shaw died doing a similar demonstration. Richard M. McLean, a 22-year-old from Michigan, died in a similar fashion in June 2012. Missouri resident James Looney, 40, was also teaching his girlfriend about gun safety when he shot himself in the head in September 2009.
