A drunk driver sues his friend and two restaurants after he was in a crash that left two teenagers dead. The New Mexico man, 37-year-old James Ruiz, was convicted and now he feels as though his drinking buddy -- and the two restaurants where they drank -- should be held accountable also. On March 8, FOX News reported this story.
"The lawsuit, filed by Ruiz without a lawyer, claims the restaurants and his friend caused Ruiz emotional distress due to the loss of liberty and enjoyment of life after he was served drinks in 2010," FOX News reported. Ruiz feels that it was a "chain of events" that led him to get behind the wheel while drunk.
The drunk driver that sues his friend and the restaurants is currently serving a 40-year prison sentence. He pled guilty to the charges in 2011 but never did he mention his friend or Blue Corn Cafe or Applebees... until now.
At the time of the crash, Ruiz was out on bond after his fifth (yes, you read that right) DWI arrest. The parents of the two teenagers who were killed have filed a "wrongful death" lawsuit against Ruiz, the restaurants, and others in the case, according to FOX News. Both parents were in the car at the time of the accident and they were injured.
Will the drunk driver that sues his friend come out on top?
