Matthew Cordle 22 who put the hour-long video now viewed by 1.9 million viewers on Youtube, “I killed a man,” after driving drunk and killing Vincent Canzani 61 plead not guilty. A surprise for everyone who believes the man was taking full responsibility for his wreckless behavior.
On June 22, 2013, Cordle drove the wrong way on a Columbus interstate causing the death
Cordle’s lawyer claims it’s just a formality to avoid certain red taped procedure and to ensure a random judge would be assigned to the case. Cordle appeared in court on Tuesday.
The plea is being handled this way so that no one can say they were assigned a specific judge. After the judge is assigned Cordle will enter his ‘guilty’ plea.
Cordle said the hit-and-run-accident (see video) he caused happened when he was out barhopping with friends that evening when he blacked out and lost control. In the video Cordle says he will assume full responsibility so the “not guilty” plea comes as a big surprise to everyone who believed the young mans was doing the right thing to honor the man he killed.
“Please don’t drink and drive. Please don’t say it’s only a few miles, or you nly had a few beers, or you do it all of the time and it won’t happen to you. It happened to me.”
Cordle’s blood alcohol level was .191 double Ohio’s state legal limit
Maximum sentence for the crime is 8 ½ years in prison for open count of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Cordle is being held at the Franklin County Corrections 1 facility in Columbus Ohio.
