‘Drumline’ sequel to march onto VH1 as a television movie

A sequel to the 2002 hit film “Drumline” will be marching to a new beat on cable television. According to an article at The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday actor Nick Cannon who starred in the original will be back as a co-star and an executive producer for the new movie that will be shown on VH1.

Production is set to start in the spring on the project with a premiere set for the fall on the cable network. The current title for the follow-up film is Drumline: A New Beat”. It will introduce a new set of characters and new setting. The movie will be about a young woman from Brooklyn named Dani who goes angainst her parent’s wishes and attends a fictional University in Louisana in hopes of becoming the first female section leader of the band’s drumline.

In the original Cannon starred as a talented yet over-confident freshman who joins the band’s drumline and helps lead them to victory over a cross-town rival. The popular movie which is available on DVD also starred Zoe Saldana and Orlando Jones (“Sleepy Hollow”).
