"Angry Aussies take to the street and are beginning to bring about real change," wrote Drudge Report editor Joseph Curl as he compared apathetic Americans to a revolt "for real change" in Australia on his Twitter page on March 16, 2014.. Curl brandished the news of thousands of Australian protestors showing his bewilderment and frustration with American complacency as he wondered, "When will Americans get angry enough?"
One of the things Curl wants Americans to get angry over, to get livid over and take to the voter booths, if not the street, is Obamacare. Amid Drudge Report storyboards which focus on every Obamacare glitch and failure, Curl wrote of what he considers a travesty, "We completely overhauled American health care to insure 4.2 million people?"
Curl concluded, "With just 4.2 million of the 46 million uninsured Americans enrolled, it seems Obamacare is already finished before it started." To allow the Obama administration to get away with scrapping America's entire healthcare system just to end up, contrary to its selling points, leaving tens of millions of those who were uninsured, still uninsured, is unthinkable to Curl.
It's a fact, claims Curl, that Obama said dozens of times, “We are not a nation that accepts nearly 46 million uninsured men, women and children.” It's a fact, claims Curl, that the White House Council of Economic Advisers said, "Perhaps the most visible sign of the need for health care reform is the 46 million Americans currently without health insurance." It's a fact, claims Curl, that the Census Bureau also weighed in saying "some 48 million Americans lacked health insurance."
It's sadly also a fact, claims Curl that Obama seems to have forgotten the original reason Obamacare was launched, the media seems to have forgotten; even more gut wrenching, Curl fears regular Americans have forgotten as well. If so, Curl is reminding all, the justification for Obamacare was to cover "46 million uninsured men, women and children," not a mere 4.2 million.
In a previous article published as a Washington Times columnist, the Drudge editor made it clear that he understood why so many struggling citizens failed to rouse themselves from the drudge of their daily routines to take on policies that are thwarting them in as personal a matter as their health insurance as well as dimming their chances to get their piece of the "American Dream,"
In "The president thinks you are stupid (and so do I)" Curl wrote:
Far from stupid, Americans are simply fed up with All Things Washington: They don’t trust this president, Congress, the Supreme Court, the media. But contrary to what former Justice O’Connor thinks, Americans aren’t “stupid,” they’re just too busy working to pay for out-of-control U.S. spending and the coming Obamacare. And they’re just happy to have a job in Mr. Obama’s horrible economy. And most of all, they just don’t have time to fuss with fools.
On Sunday, the Drudge Report hyperlinked to a story about Obamacare, a story that mentions a recent CNN-ORC International survey that shows 57 percent of those polled oppose Obamacare. Drudge also linked to a story about how Democrats are attacking a cancer victim who is daring to tell how Obamacare is responsible for adding to her health challenges.
Mirroring the Drudge Report storyboards he helps aggregate, Curl has personally taken on a grab bag of issues in his column and on his Twitter page defining the personal sense of moral outrage and displacement he believes all thinking Americans should be feeling strongly enough to "take to the street." Watching tens of thousands Melbourne protestors "demanding action on a mixed bag of issues," Curl is publicly questioning why Americans aren't uniting as the Australians are, to shout, "We demand better!" and "Not in my name!"
It's a wait-and-see game whether Americans who oppose Obamacare are waiting for elections 2014 and 2016 to vote their protest. An easy prediction is that the Drudge Report will chronicle, step-by-step, how Americans respond. Tonight, Matt Drudge echoed Curl's dismay about the state of American minds, speaking of the low level "damaged Americans are operating on."
In the meantime, Drudge Report founder Matt Drudge and editors Joseph Curl and Charles Hurt may seethe in the background while their keyboards are kept busy pounding out link after link to wake-up calls they hope may finally spark an outcry from those whose voices are mostly unheard. Middle-class working citizens and the young people who will inherit America apparently are the primary targets.
