Drought in America, Is God Angry? (Photos)

There is a major drought going on in the United States of America. Portions of the mighty Mississippi River are closed down. Farmers are seeing their crops wither away and die. It is estimated that almost 40 percent of this years corn crop will be lost. Ponds, lakes and rivers are drying up and there have been unbearable periods of heat in various parts of the country. Meteorologists, climatologists and scientists are becoming less and less able to predict the changes in our environment. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says that 1,584 counties in 32 states have been designated primary disaster areas because of the drought. That is more than half of all the counties in the United States. This drought is considered to be the worst drought in decades. In addition to the drought, the United States has experienced an increased number of wild fires, tornadoes, hurricanes and even a few minor earthquakes. So what's going on?

It can all be explained from a spiritual standpoint. In the bible, Mathew chapter 24:6-8 says: “And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” Now don't get me wrong, I am not trying to scare anyone. The bible also says that no one knows the day or the hour when the world will end or even when Jesus will come back. For sure there have been droughts and natural disasters since Noah and the great flood. The one thing to be aware of is that when these things do happen, it should get our attention.

The fear of God and His awesome power is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. When something like drought happens, its intended result is to turn us back to God. Most humans feel like we can fix every thing from our own power and with our own strength, but droughts and other natural occurrences, we cannot fix by human means. During the recent wildfires in Colorado their were thousands of people fighting the fires, but they were unable to put them out. A few years ago when hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans the surge of water was unable to be stopped by the man-made levies. The damage in New Orleans still remains unrepaired to this day.

In the prophet Elijah's day he prayed and asked God to stop it from raining because of the evil and wickedness that had taken over the land. Jezebel the wife of Ahab had tried to kill all the prophets of God and had replaced them with false prophets and lies. Could that be part of our problem? What voices are we listening to? Who are our prophets? Any time drought or famine showed up in the bible it was because of an unwillingness of the people to turn back to God. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. God is simply trying to get our attention so that America will turn back to him. If God does not send the rain, we don't eat.

We can not continue to kick God out of our affairs and expect for Him to continue to provide for us. Abortion and birth control issues, no prayer in schools, same sex marriage, prescription and illegal drug abuse, pornography, perverse and hedonistic lifestyles, demonic and satanic influence in music movies and television, greed, corruption and theft in financial dealings, mistreatment of the poor, middle class and disenfranchised and the list of sins against God could go on. Can we really expect God to bless us with rain? I know folks are saying but we are free, what about our freedom to live how we want to live? The Apostle Paul said “all things are lawful, but all things are not expedient.” Saying this, he is talking abut the fact that Christians do not live under the law, but under grace. Grace is not there so that you sin more, grace is there so you will realize all that God has done for you, and you will sin less.

The scientist, farmers, the good folks at the Department of Agriculture and even the President are trying to figure out a solution to the drought problem. The solution to the drought problem is very simple, let's get spiritually right with God. God already told us what to do in His answer to king Solomon thousands of years ago. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
