Drop that cookie, Santa!

It seems so unfair that Santa is the only common worldly figure who is accepted for being fat. In fact, the fatter Santa is the better he becomes.  We, however, are not quite as lucky as that.  For our figures and our health, here are a few tips to stay slim and healthy over the next week.

1. Drop that cookie, Santa!  For those of you who have children that leave a big plate of cookies and tall glass of milk under the tree... don't consume all the goodies.  If you have Christmas Eve dinner or party foods, a plate of cookies and large glass of milk before bed will leave you bloated, fatigued, and combine with all the other calories eaten in previous hours.  One chocolate chip cookie can range from 60-200 calories depending on the brand and how it is made. Add about four or five to a plate and that's a lot to deal with. Also, one cup of whole milk has approximately 150 calories. In order to save yourself the calories and sluggishness, pour the milk back in the jug and put the cookies back in the box.  Can't go without eating or drinking some? Eat one cookie only, and if it's skim milk go ahead and drink it.  If it's whole milk, drink water instead.

2. Eggnog or bust!:  Eggnog has long been a tradition for the holiday season and it shouldn't be left out.  Unfortunately, the thick, creamy, rich glass of deliciousness isn't on the top ten list for healthiest holiday beverages.  To enjoy the taste and tradition of eggnog in sugar-free, low-fat, vegan, and/or non-alcoholic form, check out this link of easy recipes to choose the one right for your health concerns.

3. Not-so holly jolly: I assume, no... I know there are many of you who have still not finished shopping, and Christmas is in one week.  That is exactly why there is a higher than average shopping volume right now than there will be one month from now. Relax. Take a deep breath. To make the shopping experience a lot less stressful, write down exactly who you need to shop for.  Once this is completed you can figure out what you want to buy for that person. Now, look in the sale papers and online for the best prices before you go shopping.  This saves a lot of time and effort because you know exactly where to go and what to get.  The best part is you can stay in your p.j.s all day (if you want to) while you browse.

Have a Merry Christmas, and Happy Holiday Season!
