Drop side cribs recalled

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of Generation 2 drop side cribs by Child Designs.  The drop side can suffocate a child who becomes stuck between it and the crib mattress.

Three deaths have been reported by owners of this type of crib.  All three children were suffocated because a part of the hardware holding the drop side was broken.  Many additional children have been injured.  If you own one of these cribs you are not advised to try and fix it, but to get a new crib.

Generation 2 went out of business in 2005 so consumers are urged to contact the place of purchase for a refund, exchange or store credit.  Never use a crib with broken or missing pieces, no matter what brand it is and always register your baby gear so you will hear right away if a product has been recalled.
