“Drop Dead Fred” star Rik Mayall died at his home in England on June 9, according to a TMZ report. The 56-year-old 90s cult classic film and comedic star’s death remains a mystery to friends and family who were home with him when he passed away, but his rep notes that there is no foul play.
The UK Daily Mirror reports that the comedian’s death comes 16 years after his near fatal biking accident which left him suffering from epilepsy, and in a coma. In addition to “Drop Dead Fred,” Mayall starred in various sitcoms including, “The Young Ones,” “The New Statesman” and “Bottom,” among others.
According to TMZ, Mayall’s stardom the United States was limited to “Drop Dead Fred,” which even though was hailed a failure by critics, became a mega financial hit.
The actor was married with three children.
