Autobahn Summary
Most people are surprised to find out that the Autobahn actually has "hard" speed limits. These are setup for safety by size and capability of the vehicle types. Slower buses and motorcycles carrying trailers are limited to 60 km/h, while special licensed buses can travel up to 100 km/h! Vehicles that weigh more than 3.5 tons are limited to 80 km/h. Passenger cars with trailers are limited to 100 km/h as well. If your passenger vehicle is equipped with studded tires, your speed is limited by law to 145 km/h!
Autobahn driving schools
Overall, the Autobahn is a driving experience that everyone should try at least once. The rush of going faster than standard US interstate speed limits is a very exhilarating experience! The faster your vehicle, the better. Just make sure that your car isn't going to fall apart at high speeds. If you question your vehicle at all, take it to one of the several Autobahn service stations that line the exits. High speed driving makes for quicker wear and tear. The mechanic business surrounding the Autobahn has been thriving for years and will continue to do so!
