Learn how to drive safer.

With kids already back to the classroom in many parts of the country, the roads are once again filled with school buses, kids crossing the street and parking lots full with parents dropping off kids. Which is why Progressive Insurance is helping to make the roads a little safer for everyone both during this busy time on the roads and all year round. And that's awesome.

Drive Safe Today Day

To help raise awareness about the importance of safe driving habits and positively affect driving behavior across the country, Progressive has declared September 3, 2014 as Drive Safe Today Day. Leading up to the date, they’re encouraging people to take an online pledge to acknowledge their commitment to practice safe driving behaviors on September 3, and every day, as well as providing valuable tips and resources. What a great way to get a refresher on safe driving tips, and help others too.

In conjunction with this day of awareness, Progressive conducted a survey to find out how knowledgeable Americans are about safe driving basics, finding:

  • 77 percent of respondents do not know the safest placement of their hands on the steering wheel.
  • 44 percent of respondents have forgotten to wear their seatbelt at least once before, and 31 percent have forgotten more than once.
  • 47 percent of respondents say other people in the car are more distracting than their smartphone.
  • 82 percent of Americans admit they’ve had a “close call” while driving in the past year – and on average, they’ve had six of them.

Anyone can visit to take the pledge and commit to positively changing one of their own driving behaviors – whether it’s going the speed limit, keeping your cool on the road or eliminating distractions in the car. What will YOU commit to changing?
