Grab your popcorn, turn up the radio and prepare to go back in time for an old-fashioned drive-in movie. The Oval is channeling its nostalgic side this fall for The Awesome Fest Drive-In, a five-night, double feature drive-in movie event, beginning Friday, Oct. 18. Every Friday night through November 22, The Oval will screen two “drive-in themed” flicks on its 30-foot projection screen.
Join the folks at Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and the Philly Roller Girls beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Eakins Oval to experience the thrill of a traditional drive-in movie. According to Marc Wilken, Park Concessions Manager for Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, the roller derby girls will be serving food and drinks to your car and a variety of food trucks will be on site offering you delicious Philadelphia eats. You’re sure to have a great experience, whether this is your first time or you’re an old friend to the drive-in theatre.
“We plan to try and bring back the drive-in experience with the movies, food, servers, and having folks being able to listen to the movie via their radio,” explains Wilken. “We hope folks who have never been and (folks who) remember the experience will want to come.”
Wilken encourages people to arrive early–between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.–to ensure a prime spot, since space is limited. Both cyclists and drivers are invited to attend; however drivers must purchase their tickets in advance online, here.
