Earlier this week, rumors started circulating that "Drive Club," Sony's entry into next-generation racing games, would be delayed till early 2014. Although official confirmation was painfully avoided by the games developers, more and more outlets started catching wind from their own sources, putting some weight behind the rumors.
Well, if you're a Sony fan, I regret to inform you that Drive Club is now officially delayed until "early 2014." The news of the delay broke early this morning via the official PlayStation blog.
SCE Worldwide Studios and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of DRIVECLUB and DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition until early 2014. DRIVECLUB will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision — and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations.
This is now the second PlayStation 4 launch title that is delayed, following an announcement from Ubisoft earlier this week that delayed "Watch_Dogs" to early 2014 as well. In an attempt to rectify the situation, Sony will be offering Contrast for free to all PS+ members.
For the PS4 launch, in addition to Resogun, I’m pleased to announce that Contrast, the highly anticipated game from Compulsion Games will also be available to PlayStation Plus members for free.
This is not necessarily a bad thing, as Drive Club was said to be under polished at every game show it was presented at. Extending the development can only help guarantee that it is a true next-generation title, a title that will explore all the possibilities the PlayStation 4 has to offer.
