A Daily Word from the Word for Monday, June 2, 2014

“And it will come to pass in that day that the mountains shall drip with new wine, the hills shall flow with milk, And all the brooks of Judah shall be flooded with water; A fountain shall flow from the house of the LORD And water the Valley of Acacias.” –Joel 3:18

The Valley of the Acacias was a barren valley located in Jordan. This basin wasn’t just dry, it was barren. Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines barren as “incapable of producing, lacking.”

What has left a dry taste in your mouth, my brother? What is barren in you, my sister? What are the dry places in your life, family? What have you written off as “it is what it is,” “that’s just the way I am,” “that’s my lot in life,” “that’s my cross to bear,” “there is nothing I can do about it,” “it runs in our family,” and “I pulled the short straw.” Watch your mouth, man of God! Change your language, woman of The Most High King! The devil is a liar! So shut his filthy, foul, accusing, lying mouth with the Word of God!

God determines “what it is” by what He has already spoken! It is what God has already declared it is: alive and not dead! Above only and not beneath! The head and not the tail! Overflowing and not dry! Call those things that are not as though they were! (Deuteronomy 28:13, Romans 4:17).

The Lord declared in the first part of this verse that “It will come to pass.” You have two choices concerning those barren things in you and in your life: you can continue to lament in your state, throw yourself a pity party (and the devil will be more than happy to sit down and join you—cry with you because that is exactly where he wants to keep you!), and allow yourself, your mentality, and your words to keep you barren; or, you can call on the Living God! You can call on God to show Himself strong in you, for you, and on your behalf!

You can cry out the simple prayer “HELP LORD!” (and yes, this is an acceptable prayer). You can summon your Father, “God, you are bigger than that which is barren in me! You are the God Who breathes life into the dead things and areas! Resuscitate that which is dead in me and in my life! Blow my mind Lord by showing me what you can do!” And you know what? God will do it for you. He will do it in His way and His timing, but He will do it for you.

The Hebrew word for “fountain” as used here is mayanah (pr. mah-yaw-naw) which is “a source, spring, well” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). Allow God to be your source this day, and He will cause springs and wells to rise up, break through, and flow from those barren places. He will cause your mountains to drip with new wine and your hills to flow with milk. You have allowed those barren places to remain far too long. Now it is time for you to call on The One Who will bring to pass every promise He has ever made to you.

Father, thank You that You are The Giver of Life, The God who brings life to the dead and calls those things that are not as though they were (Romans 4:17). Father, it is not Your Will that we should lack in any area of our lives. It is not Your Will that we do not have Your provision overflowing in every area of our lives. We call on You this day to break lack off of us and off of our lives. We call on You today to restore us and those areas in our lives that need restoring, and we call on You today to bring life to those dead places and things that have been crying out for resuscitation. In Jesus Name, we thank You for Your life in every area of our lives—and life abundant. Amen and Amen!

Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to press through those hard places in you and in your life by believing and confessing the Word and The Promises of God concerning you and your situation. Choose to believe that God will bring life back to those dead things, and will turn your situation and circumstances around for you. Don’t give up hope! For in hope is faith, which is the substance of things hoped for, the conviction and manifestation of things not seen! (Hebrews 11:1). And continue to fight the good fight of watering those dry places with God’s Word; for God, your River of Living Water, has already given you the victory!

If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!

God tells us that we are blessed to be a blessing (Genesis 12:2). Be a blessing to someone by sending them this word of encouragement.
