Drinkers on a mission and diners on a budget head to City Tavern

A gem of a bar located right at the active intersection of Main Street and East North Street, City Tavern works hard at delivering their popular motto, “Greenville’s arrogantly shabby downtown daiquiri bar.”

Either the open air patio filled with tables and chairs or the many neon bar signs will eagerly guide you to check out this very casual place from a stroll along Main Street’s sidewalks. Upon entering, a long, sprawling glossy wood bar stretches along one entire wall while pub tables and booths accommodate diners on a budget and drinkers on a mission. Eight televisions surround the entire establishment furnishing ample views of sporting events.

Weekly specials pamper those thin wallets – the $5 wing baskets serving up 10 meaty chicken wings sporting several wing sauce options are fantastic! Checking out the specials board parked at the door will brighten your day as City Tavern will make sure there’s a drink or food special affordable for any patron’s tastes and most importantly, each and every day the kitchen stays open until 1:30 a.m. satisfying those late night hunger passions.

Do you like music? Do you like to determine who sings that particular song? Then Name That Tune Team Trivia Night every Monday night is for you and your dedicated music buddies – this challenging game of identifying songs attracts any music fanatic.

City Tavern likes to celebrate most any special holiday or special anything - for example, coming up is Mardi Gras on Tuesday, February 16 with $5 frozen drinks, beads galore and Mardi Gras attire!

And now, best of all, is the half wall displaying THE frozen drinks. Two favorites, 190 Tiger in your Tank and 190 Purple Paladin are composed of 190 and rum. These unique fruity concoctions are crazy easy to drink (minus the potential brain freeze from sucking too fast through your straw) and one can never have just one. A brand new flavor has just been introduced already gaining a strong following - remember those push up pops at the ice cream truck? Welcome Creamsicle, also containing 190 and rum. Prepare to be amazed at the familiar taste! Banana Bulldog, Rum Runner and Electric Lemonade drinks round out the rest of the frozen wall. By the way, if you can't decide which one to try first, ask for taste samples and pick out your favorite flavor.

Most weekends, find live music and a packed bar crowd at a not-so-shabby place sitting right in the hub of downtown Greenville. City Tavern delivers great drinks, good food, and a decidedly laid back yet respectable drinking atmosphere. 128 North Main Street, Greenville, SC. 864-239-2202.
