IMG_0644.JPG

This weeks Drink of the week is the trendy Tequila Sunrise. This fruity and refreshing cocktail was specifically invented to enjoy while lounging by the pool. Gene Sulit created the original recipe around the 1930’s at the Arizona Biltmore hotel for a frequent guest who loved tequila. The beloved cocktail even inspired a song by the Eagles and a Mel Gibson movie, both entitled Tequila Sunrise.

Below is the original recipe as well as the popular recipe, along with a few places in Downtown Los Angeles where you can enjoy the cocktail.

The Original Tequila Sunrise

1 ¼ oz Premium Tequila

¾ oz Chambord

Fresh Lime

Soda Water

The Popular Tequila Sunrise

1 ¼ oz Tequila

½ oz Grenadine Syrup

3 oz Orange Juice

The Chambord and grenadine are poured in last by tipping the glass and pouring them down the inside of the glass. The Chambord or grenadine will settle at the bottom, creating the beautiful sunrise effect.
