Two days after a heartbreaking double-overtime loss at Delaware, the Drexel Dragons (11-17, 7-9 CAA) came up short yet again losing to Towson, 72-71, on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore forward Kazembe Abif went to the free throw line with 1.2 seconds remaining and the score 72-70 in Towson's favor. Abif missed the first free throw and instead of missing the second intentionally to try a put back attempt to send the game into overtime, the forward made the second shot. Towson then inbounded the ball and the Dragons couldn't foul to stop the clock and the game was over.
In the loss, junior point guard Frantz Massenat finished with 24 points, three assists and zero turnovers. Derrick Thomas, Damion Lee and Daryl McCoy all finished in double figures with 13, 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Drexel will travel to Norfolk, Virginia to take on Old Dominion for the final time as CAA foes and then the Dragons return home for a March 2nd game against UNCW top finish out the regular season.
