Drew Peterson gets 38 years in prison for murder of third wife

The infamous cop whose young wives kept disappearing never seemed to acknowledge the severity of his charges. His over-the-top, sarcastic attitude sparked nationwide public interest and even inspired a movie starring Rob Lowe. That attitude changed yesterday, February 21, as Drew Peterson was sentenced to 38 years in prison for the death of Kathleen Savio, his third wife.

“I did not kill Kathleen!” Peterson screamed in the courtroom, prompting the victim’s sister to yell back, “Yes you did you liar!” This outburst got the victim’s sister, Susan Doman, removed from the courtroom.

Drew has been a long-time suspect in the death of Stacy Peterson, but was never charged. However, investigation into her death caused police to look further into the death of Kathleen Savio. Ultimately, the case was reclassified from accident to murder and led to his arrest.

State prosecutor James Glasgow was the target of Peterson’s outbursts in court. At one point, Peterson challenged the prosecutor to look him in the eyes. Once he complied, Peterson warned, “Never forget what you’ve done here.”

Glasgow and his team of prosecutors admitted that this case was filled with holes. They argued that the motive for Peterson killing his newly divorced third ex-wife was to avoid the financial burden.

“We all got an opportunity to see a psychopath reveal himself in open court.” Glasgow told reporters.

The man who would arrogantly taunt the public, loudly suggesting a “Win a Date With Drew Contest” while sarcastically dismissing allegations, will be starting his new life in the place he’s sent so many others as a cop: The Illinois Prison System.
