Drew Barrymore not rushing pregnancy weight loss: 'I want to be healthy'

New mom Drew Barrymore is in no rush to regain her slender pre-pregnancy body and refuses to get caught up in the Hollywood rat race to lose baby weight in record time.

"I want nothing to do with that hamster wheel from hell," Barrymore, 37, told Oprah Winfrey. "It seems miserable. I want to be healthy enough that I feel good mentally."

As it is, Drew didn't gain too much weight during her pregnancy, and looks amazing after having given birth to daughter Olive in September 2012. Barrymore says she's too busy relishing the joys of new motherhood to obsess over fitting into a bikini anytime soon.

“I’m still working on it, but I’m not worrying about it,” Drew told Good Housekeeping. "We live in a society where everyone's like, 'Look at how amazing she looks two weeks [after giving birth].' I'm never going to have the kind of body that makes me excited about bikini season."

Barrymore, who married art dealer Will Kopelman in June 2012, says her top priority is being happy.

"My goal is to be nice to myself, gentle toward myself, during this process," she says. "It's such a sacred time. I think that being happy makes the biggest impact on your physical appearance.

"Of course I want to look good in clothes. I know if I eat whatever I want, I will not look amazing. So it's all about balance for me. But I don't want perfection; I don't actually believe in it. What I've learned along the way is: Work with what you have; embrace what you've been given. Don't fight against it."
