Drew Barrymore joins Twitter

Actress Drew Barrymore opened a Twitter account on Tuesday.

"Late to the party, but happy to be here!" she tweeted. "140 characters should keep me from rambling . . . someone told me it doesn't all have to fit in 1 tweet."

As of Tuesday evening, Barrymore had 11,723 followers.

She was following only one account, @flowerbeauty, her own cosmetics brand.

Barrymore, 38, won the Young Artist Award for Best Young Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture in 1982 at the age of seven for her portrayal of Gertie in “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.”

Other notable childhood roles include “Firestarter, "Irreconcilable Differences," "Cat's Eye" and the TV movie "Babes in Toyland."

As an adult, she has been nominated for and/or earned awards for "Scream," "The Wedding Singer," "Ever After," "Never Been Kissed," "Charlie'Angels," "50 First Dates," "Fever Pitch" and "Grey Gardens."

She has had a recurring role as the voice of Jillian Russell in "The Simpsons."

She is shooting a film titled “The Familymoon” with Adam Sandler, according to IMDb.com.
