Dress code announced after clothes are bought

Each new school year brings a new style of dressing. This year is no different. Parents of students from Providence High were told of a change in the dress code there and it's enforcement a couple of days back and don't like it. The announcement comes after parents have spent time and money obtaining clothing and supplies for their children for school. Some parents are not in a position to return clothes bought , and especially since these items were bought during a tax free weekend. The rules statestudents can not wear tank tops or halter tops, and shorts and skirts must pass a fingertip test. Several parents wonder why the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system didn't notify them sooner. The principal of Providence says since fashion is ever changing, she wanted to make sure the policy was clear so students would stay focused on school. Parent Kathleen O'Leary is requesting the school delay the start of the new dress code to allow students to wear the clothes that have already been bought.

'We've already done the school shopping. I do not have the time nor the money to go out and buy more stuff,' O'Leary says.

Each Charlotte-Mecklenburg School has it's own dress code because parents of students from each school develops what to and not to wear. Officials from Providence HS says the code is for teachers and students alike.

Everyone has their own style of dress. Their are even different beliefs that say what fashion is acceptable to wear, even if it is to cover or to show more skin. From a Christian perspective, the focus should be on school because the clothes don't make the perso, they only cover them. There is really no problem with the school(s) wanting to be uniform either. The uproar here in this case is the timing. If parents had of known of this enforcement of dress code and what their child(ren) could or cold not wear, the parents could have planned accordingly. Focus on school and education is important here, but proper money management is also a plus because now the money spent on the clothes wasn't spent properly and now parents may have to use money they may not have to buy a new warobe.
