If you're planning on going to the IHRA Nitro Jam Palm Beach Nationals at Palm Beach International Raceway on Friday, May 2, don't be surprised if you see Doc Brown having a discussion with the Joker, or if James Bond offers to buy Daisy Duke a drink. You haven't stepped into some strange dimension where movie characters suddenly appear in real life; or maybe you have!
The 2014 IHRA Nitro Jam Palm Beach Nationals at Palm Beach International Raceway features the world’s fastest and most exciting cars in five thrilling classes including Nitro Funny Car, Nitro Harley, Nitro Altered, Mountain Motor Pro Stock and Jet Dragster.
Race fans who show up dressed as one of the characters from Batman, The Dukes of Hazzard, Back to the Future, Rock of Ages or 007: For Your Eyes Only will receive $10 off an adult ticket, and be entered into a costume contest which will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Hollywood Cars of the Stars display. Final judging will take place during pre-race ceremonies prior to the start of Nitro Jam at 7:20 pm, with the grand prize winner receiving a complimentary ticket package to the Miami Auto Museum.
Scheduled to appear are Mike Halstead “Candies & Hughes,” Ronnie Young “Blue Max,” Mike McIntire Jr. “McAttack,” John Hale “Mike Burkhart Tribute,” Tim Boychuk “Forever Forward,” Jason Rupert “Black Plague,” Mark Sanders “Mr. Explosive,” Bruce Litton “US Male,” “Candies Family Racing,” John Smith “Jungle Jim,” and Mike Smith “Brand X” in the Nitro Funny Car division.
In Nitro Altered, Kyle Hough “Nanook,” Ron Hope “Rat Trap,” Ron Maroney “Blind Faith,” Don Blackshear “Bullet Bob,” Terry Haddock “Nasty Benjamin,” and Brian Hope “Pure Hell” will make up the field.
Nitro Harley consists of Jay Turner, Mike Scott, Randal Andras, Joey Sternotti, Mike Pelrine, Mark Cox, and Ray Cason.
The Mountain Motor Pro Stock competitors are Pete Berner, Cary Goforth, Todd Hoerner, Kevin Bealko, John DeFlorian, and John Konigshofer.
In Jet Dragster, : Elaine Larsen, Marisha Falk, Kat Moller, and Dawn Perdue will light up the night in their amazing flame throwing machines!
Gates open at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, with Sportsman Testing on the track and the FanFest in the paddock area. The NitroJam qualifying officially gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Fans can enjoy a full day of action on Saturday, with Sportsman Racing taking to the dragstrip at 10 a.m., and FanFest opening at 2 p.m. The Nitro Jam eliminations kick off at 6 p.m.
Tickets are available at the gate day of show or in advance through the NitroJam website for $25 on Friday and $30 on Saturday. Kid’s tickets are only $10 each day.
