On Saturday, April 5 Variety reported that actor Karl Urban is making progress on creating the action adventure film "Dredd 2," the sequel to the comic book adaptation "Dredd" about a law enforcement officer in a futuristic dystopian society. Urban portrayed the lead role of Judge Dredd in the original film and has been a supporter of a sequel.
Urban recently stated at the Emerald City Comic Con that everyone involved in the project "really appreciate" all the support from fans and they are "working very, very hard to bring you Dredd 2." Other supporters of the project include DNA Films and Alex Garland, the screenwriter and producer of the original film.
There was a petition created for supporters of a sequel, which currently has over one hundred thousand signatures. The official Facebook page Make a DREDD Sequel, which has been endorsed by the comic book creators of the franchise, has everything fans need to know about the potential sequel.
The science fiction film "Dredd" was released back in 2012 and did not make back its forty-five million dollar budget at the box office, but become a cult success on DVD and Blu-ray by earning the top spot financially on major online retailers across the world. Sales and digital downloads also increased amid rumors of a sequel just weeks after the DVD release.
